Eczema- my experiences and my solutions

How I fight this very common disease

I' ve neved had an issue with eczema or major skin problems whatsoever. Until I had kids. And all of them with eczema. So I began to search what causes it, why it appears etc. The reasons and the cause are very diverse. SOme say it is because of food, others that is a reaction like allergy due to low immune system. I also read that it can be caused by something which the skin is exposed to. The reasons can be both: internal and external. And I know for a fact that is true. My children had both reasons but mainly the latter one. How do I know? We went to the swimming pool of the condominium it appeared, when we didn't it didn't appear. Since it was easy to detect-some people are not that lucky- I focused on trying to treat externally. I remember that I read something very simple for newborns. Since I have just had a baby born, I was searching for something I can use on newborns skin to wash. I don't like to use big brands full of chemicals, being a soapmaker making 100 % natural soaps, and I like the environment. Also my soaps are gentle but I still wasn't sure if such a small baby needs anything at that time. Then I find something so incredibly simple:

Heat some milk to lukewarm
Put 1 spoon of honey in it
Then mix it with porridge- oat finely ground
until it becomes like baby food.
As I knew oatmeal is good for eczema, I thought I give it a try. Before shower I asked the kids to cover themselves in it. They were very happy because while standing in a shower they kept putting it not only on their body but also in they mouth!!!!
And never guess what? The next day eczema dissappeared completely. I couldn't beleive it.
Then I began to think how it can be done as a soap. Lets see, what are the ingredients: milk, oat, honey. I thought if it has to be milk, better to be goat's milk as it is even stronger to fight eczema. Doctors suggest to drink goat's milk because it is very effective against allergy. So my primary ingredient had to be goats milk. Then it also had to be 100% olive oil to sooth dry skin- we know olive oil is the best. And then the finely ground oat. I also put some ginger in it to be super- anti bacterial.
And here we have- Ezcema Eraser soap was born.
I figured if I use the soap to avoid the ezcema to appear, if we do go to the swimming pool or it appears because of other reason I use the milk-honey oat mixture. And I do this up to this day.

How to make apple cider vinegar, rasberry vinagre etc. at home

It is so simple, and the result is well worth it!!

I've been making apple cider vinegar at home for over a year, and now I will put the recipe here for everybody to test and to make it as well. ITs benefits are that is not being made with industrial vinegar so it has all the vitamins that supposed to have.
You need a 5 litre glass jar.
2 kg of apple, can be the pieces you don't eat, don't have to be perfect apples. It is ok to be brown but no mould.
Cut the apples and take the pieces and put in the jar.
Boil 2 litres of water with 200 gr of sugar.
When it is lukewarm, pour over the apple and put a piece of bread on top. With bread you can make sourcrout as well, without the sugar but loads of salt.
It is important for the liquid to cover the apples and to reach the bottom of the bread. Not good to cover the bread because it can become soggy, goes inside and won't ferment.
Once is done, cover it with a thin clothes, and an elastic band. The idea is to let it breed without the flies going inside.
Let it rest in a warm place for 10 days. In the summer I put out of sunlight but warm place in the garden. In the winter goes on the heater.
During the 10 days, mix it regularly. After the 10 days is up drain it and measure the liquid. Each litre of liquid requires further 100 gr of sugar.
Cover it again, now only the liquid with the sugar and let it rest for 4 weeks. First it is going to look like that it will be wine but then it will become clear  it will have a thin layer of a jelly thing which at the end of the 4 weeks can be taken out and kept for the next time you make vinagre. With that jelly thing you will not need so much apples next time. All you have to do put some water, sugar and a little apple and you can always have apple cider vinagre.
The remaining clear liquid is your vinagre can be used internally and externally. Please remember: as you make it at home sometimes can become stronger sometimes weaker like everything, you have to make it several times to be experienced. We do it loads of times and it is never the same.
Would you like to make rasberry vinagre? Just do the same or any other fruits you desire. The basic is the same.
The recipe and the pictures come from this source:

A száraz bőr okozója- SLS

  •  Tökéletes hidratáló, linoleic savat tartalmaz, ami meggátolja a víz párolgását
  • Antioxidáns, egyes elemei meggátolják a bőr öregedését és a bőrrák kialakulását
  • tökéletes borotválkozáskor mert megkönnyíti a penge siklását
Mellékelek egy képet a rószaszín agyagos, rózsaillatú szappanomról, ami majdnem 100 % olivaolajat tartalmaz, így rendkívül jó hidratáló

The cause of dry skin- SLS

Recently I have post an article on my facebook page about sodium laureth sulfate, SLS. I am going to post the link here as well, if you have time, please read it.
This article explain something what we, soapmakers already know and what we would like everyone to know- the harmful and cheap bubbling agent in all shampoos and shower gels. This industrially cheap ingredient is the one causing dry skin for most of us- it is as simple as that. So we buy body lotions, because we need it. We know of course that hard water, sun, swimming pool etc can wear out our delicate skin, but some of the circumstances, for example the sun can be balanced with sufficient amount of water drunk. However, there is still a lot to blame to SLS. This is why I began to make soaps with almost 100 % pure, extra virgin olive oil of Portugal. This olive oil grows right where I stay so it cannot be anymore pure.
The benefits of olive oil for your skin:
  • It is an incredible moisturizer, containing linoleic acid, which prevents the water from evapurating
  • It contains antioxidant, which can help neutralizing some agents lead to skin aging or skin cancer
  • It is a lubricant for shaving

I enclose a picture of my rose and pink clay soap. You can order for Christmas it will come wrapped for a perfect present. Price: 3 euros. I can post is too, that is an additional cost.
